Attacking Anxiety: 5 Ways to Make Your Body Happy

When it all comes down to it, the state of your body is just as important for

attacking anxiety
as anything else. So why shouldn’t we take better care of it? Here are some basic tips to prime your body up to help with anxiety.

  1. Get Consistent Sleep: Your body needs regulation and consistency. If you’re pulling all-nighters, and then trying to survive the day on coffee, your body isn’t going to be happy. Try to sleep and wake up at the same time every day and get at least 7 hours sleep. If you need a nap, during the day take it, but limit it to 20 minutes so that it doesn’t disrupt your sleep patterns. I’m a big fan of the power nap. I keep a pillow and eye mask at work. Ssshhhh..
  2. Eat Properly: Cut out the crap. Try to eat less instant or prepared food. It’s loaded with fat and salt and has less nutrients. Get some fruit, vegetables.
  3. Cut out Caffeine: I love coffee as much as the next person, but sometimes you need a break from it. The more you drink, the more your body needs. Every few weeks I’ll decrease my coffee intake or cut out my coffee intake altogether. Coffee is a stimulant and will make it difficult to calm yourself down if taking in large amounts.
  4. Breath: Don’t take big deep breaths like they always tell you to do in the movies or on TV. If you’re experiencing anxiety, slow yourself down to a normal breathing pattern.
  5. Drink!: Drink water that is. Your body needs it. Far too many people don’t drink enough but instead replace it with beverages that end up depleting your body's water resources(ie. Coffee, soda, tea, alcohol etc.)
