1) Fishing - nothing is more relaxing than sitting by some water and catching your own food. The conversation and bonding is worth it
2) Gardening - not only is it beautiful, it can be tasty as well! Grow flowers or vegetables. If you grow flowers you can enjoy the compliments, if you grow food, you can eat it.
3) Pottery - a hobby that involves some patience and creativity. Unless you don’t mind having piles of non-crowd pleasing vases. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
4) Photography - may be costly to start up, but fun once you’re into the groove. It also gives you an excuse to take road trips or lengthy trips. You’d be amazed how nice those shots look once you print them out bigger than your standard 4x6 photo.
5) Sewing - this is an undervalued skill. Most people just buy their clothes or go to the tailor. Start off simple. Maybe see if you can borrow a pattern off a friend or relative and just try to make something. Who knows, maybe if you get good, you could custom make your own Halloween costume or your kids or friends!
6) Knitting - with the increasing popular of knit hats, gloves and scarves (finally a fashion trend that makes sense with the weather!) many people are opting to create their own. People with a passion for knitting have started groups such as “stitch and b..” well you get the idea. Make it social or fun. Have someone in the group bring snacks each week.
7) Cooking - nobody ever takes the time to cook properly. Get a recipe you’ve been wanting to make and work on it till you perfect it. Invite friends over.
8) Drawing - portable and cheap. Maybe you were a good artist as a kid and stopped drawing because studies took priority. Or maybe the dogs you drew always looked like horses. Whatever the case, it’s relaxing and fun. Try different mediums.Pastels, charcoal, pencil, marker, water paints
9) Language - not only is this useful, but practical. It’s great for your career, opens doors, and extremely challenging.
10) Shopping – Could be expensive, but not if you only window shop. Shopping is great therapy believe it or not. Chat it up with the salespeople. You never know what new products you may discover.
